Experience in Institute of Technology, Carlow, Ireland by Brendan
Generally, what is Institute of Technology, Carlow like?
There is a great atmosphere there. The college is big, but I still manage to meet people I know most times I go to college, which is great! Both the students and staff seem friendly, many occasions I have passed lecturers in the halls and they have stopped to see how things are going, which I think is great!
What are the facilities like?
The college offers a lot of things, from different food options, to activities from clubs and socs! After going on Erasmus I noticed the college offers much more than those do abroad.
What are the tutors like?
For the years I have been in I.T Carlow, I have been class rep. Whenever a student was having difficulty I would email the lecture for them to see if I could arrange a tutorial, which they did almost immediately and helped our class out great! They seemed determined to make sure we understood what we were learning and why, rather than just learn something off for an exam.
Are the lessons easy in Institute of Technology, Carlow?
Yes they are easy to understand, and if there was a problem with understanding the lecture tries their best for you to understand
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
The colleges soc and clubs organize events, not so much the college of what I am aware of! As being a memeber of a few socs and clubs I did notice that this was one thing the college could show more face too, as for some students like myself, the clubs and socs help make your college experience and meet new people! Here on Erasmus there doesn't seem to be any and I do think it is something the college is missing out on. Also I noticed the sports teams did benefit more funding wise to support events than other socs and clubs. Also the SU last year lacked activities but lets hope this year all changes!
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
Yes I do
Are there any stories you can share?
Like I said there is a great atmosphere, the people there are great, helpful and very kind. I can remember arrive a few weeks before I arrived to I.T Carlow in 1st year, the day after being accepted by the CAO and called into the SU for advice on accommodation, and met Sandy & Ian at the time! They were the first people I met of I.T Carlow and gave a great impression, and I stayed friends with them since then! Also another thing that comes to mind is Aisling, the access officer was a great help to me when it came to my learning disability. When I was in school very little was done for me and they ignored my learning disability. Aisling helped me get assessed for my disability of dyslexia and set up provisions for me to help me achieve my best, without my learning disability effect me.
