The center is a space for interdisciplinary research and teaching on topics related to gender and women's studies. The main goal of the center is to critically re-examine discussions of equality and gender as they pertain to the status of women, while bearing in mind that the field is not limited to heterosexual male and female prototypes but also includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and transgender individuals.

The center provides a working space, and library and other resources of the university for those holding an internship position with us in Istanbul. This is a non-salaried position, but we also accept those from the Erasmus + Program or similar mobility programs. Internships require a commitment of at least 10 hours two days a week for at least three months. All applicants should have a background related to gender and women’s studies. This can include: course work, degree program, previous internship or volunteer work. We prefer students who have completed at least a BA/BS degree. Undergraduate students who choose to apply should be either a 3rd or 4th-year student.
