Being students, we don't have a lot of money to spare so I did an experiment to spend as little money as possible and at the same time have a fantastisch day in Istanbul.

Fatih
The district of the Aya Sofya and the Blue Mosque is called Fatih, with its calm and paved streets with old, wooden houses containing the remains of the ancient city wall. Hold a close watch on the Turkish Calendar, some holidays are the reason for many spectacular feasts and special celebrations of the community.
Beyoglu
On the other side of the water, in Beyoglu, a lot of tourists come together to climb the picturesque Galata tower. If you strand in Karakoy from Emonönü, don't just go in a straight line to Istikal Street and Taksim Square. Dive into the side streets and escape the touristic hustle - here you find hip streets with art and local designers who sell their products in creative boutiques.
Besiktas
Besiktas is a district with many locals, it's not far from Taksim Square. Around the big Ottoman building, the Dolmabahçe Palace, you can find a village. At first sight, it doesn't look all that exciting but look a little closer and absorb the atmosphere, especially in the streets with the restaurants. You'll get a community feeling of the hidden and sparkling energy which flows and grows in Turkey.
