What is it like to live in Idstein? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would recommend living in Idstein because it is a beautiful small city with old but lovely renovated houses. All necessary stores are located in the centre. It is also very close to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden/ Mainz.

What is the student lifestyle like in Idstein?

There are a lot of students living there because of the university, you can meet a lot of people for example in the students' dorm or at the students' coffeehouse, where also a lot of events take place.

How much does it cost to live in Idstein?

The rent for a room in a shared flat is about 300-350 euros monthly. If you prefer living in your own flat it is a little bit more expensive. The prices in the supermarkets are normal for German conditions.

There are many offers by the students' hall of residence but also from private persons. For shared flats, it is good to have a look on this page.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are some special dishes and drinks from the region of Hessen. You should e. g. try "Frankfurter Grüne Soße, Spundekäs and Äppler".

What places would you recommend visiting in Idstein?

You can have a look at the city centre with its pretty architecture, the tower of witches and the old castle. If you like nature you can visit the Feldberg or have a ride with the Nerobergbahn.

Is it good to eat out in Idstein? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are a lot of restaurants in Idstein with many different styles. I would recommend the Italian bistro "dolce sapore", the "Brauhaus" with good traditional fare or the Mexican restaurant.

Is the nightlife good in Idstein? Where is good to go?

Students often meet at the many pubs you have in Idstein, but there are no discos there. If you want to go out for dancing it is easy to go to the bigger cities with a lot of clubs.
