Experience in West-Flanders College, Belgium by Mathieu
Generally, what is Howest University of Applied Sciences like?
Sometimes it can be a bit chaotic, but generally, it has a warm feeling and you feel at home from the moment you're settled. If you plan well and go to all classes, it is a very nice place to go to and you really feel at home.
What are the facilities like?
There are beautiful pianos, but they're hidden inside the building. There are also enough toilets, but not on every floor which makes it a bit hard sometimes.
The restaurant has good food and a very nice price.
Are the lessons easy in Howest University of Applied Sciences?
Nope... Big classes make it hard to make the lessons interesting. Smaller lessons are better to follow, but they're very long (2 hours) which makes it a bit hard to focus.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Usually, it are student groups that organise activities. Around Christmas, there's a little market at school organised by the school.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
On the spot, you don't realise it. Afterwards, you do think back on it and realise it actually was good. So work your way through and it will end up being very good.
Are there any stories you can share?
I always wanted to learn to play the piano. Never thought I would learn this in college. I met some people while they were playing, made new friends and they taught me how to play the piano. Now I use youtube and practise every moment I can. This way new people saw me playing and that's how I made even more friends.
