The introduction
Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!
In this article I want to tell you about this place in Denmark somewhere nearby Copenhagen, which is a great place to relax and hang out with some friends or even alone.
Frankly speaking, I didn’t know about this place, until I went to my road trip to Hillerød, which is a place, where this huge castle of Frederiskborg is located.
Hillerød is a city in northern Denmark and it’s about 30 kilometres far from Copenhagen, so that it’s not very difficult to go there and it’s really a good idea to go and visit this place on weekends, so that you can relax a little bit and get out from the busy life of Copenhagen to a very calm one.
About Torvets Vaffelhus
Well, the Torvets Vaffelhus is a kind of a café. It’s like a small hut with many tables and chairs outside and its location is just amazing, because it’s just very close to the lake in front of the Frederiksborg castle and the view is fascinating.
Torvets Vafelhus is located just on the square in Hillerød, just right down the water, and from there you can see the landscape of the lake and the Frederiksborg caste, which is very beautiful.
The products
Torvets Vaffelhus offers delicious and crispy homemade cakes, home-baked healthy Belgian waffles, ice cubes, coffee, chai latte, hot chocolate and many different cold drinks.
The ice cream there is from Premier ice cream and is free from artificial additives. The ice cream is exclusively based on cream and it is hundred percent pure natural ingredients.
So, you should know, that the Premier ice cream or Premier Is, as they call it in Danish, is a famous Danish ice cream and it was founded in 1933 by Sigurd Laurids Sørensen and since then, the Premier Is has become very popular there in Denmark and the ice cream is mainly produced by Premier Is, if you want to know the truth.
Well, everyone just loves those Belgian waffles and you can buy really delicious ones there in Torvets Vaffelhus, where you can have them with ice cream, too. And, of course, you can have some different drinks there, including coffee and hot chocolate or just some juice.
The prices are pretty reasonable and though there may be too many people there when it’s summer and it’s tourists season, however, the staff there is very efficient and they serve lots of people in no time, so that you won’t have to stand in long lines for too long!
The environment
The environment is very cozy around the Torvets Vaffelhus and it’s really nice to be there holding ice cream in your hands with those large scoops and looking at the lake and the Frederiksborg castle.
There are sun lounges around the Torvets Vaffelhus and you can enjoy the view while sitting in them and having your snack. You can even just sit there and relax without anything ordered there and, besides, there’s this free wi-fi access in that place, which I used really well and I was thankful for that to whoever it was, who had this free wi-fi set up there.
So that, it was a really amazing thing to go to see the Frederiksborg castle and discover such cozy place there.
There’s also a boat stop, so to say, and there’s this boat, which goes around the lake and has some stops all over the places, and since it was included in my Copenhagen card, that I could get on the boat free of charge, I waited for it for about half an hour and finally, when it came, it was full in no time and I didn’t want to wait for another one, so I just walked around the lake. However, the prices were not that expensive, I mean, it was about 25 DKK for an adult to get on the boat and sail around the castle.
There’s another thing there: just in front of the Torvet Vaffelhus, there’s this monument of their king Frederik the 7-th, who was the King in the second half of the 19-th century and he was the last king to rule as an absolute one. He was the one who signed the constitution that established parliament in Denmark. He stands there on that monument with glory and behind him stands the glorious Frederiksborg Castle!
Anyways, when you visit the Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod, you should definitely check out the Torvets Vaffelhus and have an ice cream or some Belgian waffles there!
Getting there
Well, it’s pretty easy to get to Hillerod, because there are buses which go directly to the Hillerod bus station and you just have to buy the ticket and be on time, however, if you are not on time, there will be another bus, which you can take.
So, the bus, that I took to get to Hillerod was just in front of the central station of Copenhagen and it went directly to Hillerod bus station, so that I didn’t have any transfer stations, which is just terrible, because you have to find the way to your next bus and be on time, etc.
When you get in front of the Copenhagen central station, you will see the bus with that sign of Hillerod and you can just get into the bus. Well, I don’t know the exact cost of that bus, because I had my Copenhagen Card, which included the public transportation in Copenhagenand I just showed it to the bus driver and he allowed me to get on the bus. It took about one and a half hour to get from the center of Copenhagen to Hillerod bus station. Well, I had to have this Google maps application turned on and I even had some screenshots made in case I didn't have any Internet access, so that I wouldn’t get lost somewhere. And, to be honest, it wasn't that easy to find a way all the way to the city centre of Hillerod.
