Experience in The Hague University, Netherlands by Ralu

Generally, what is The Hague University like?

The Hague University is a place where people from more than 40 different nationalities mingle together in classrooms and share knowledge. It's the right place to study politics, not only because of the subjects but also because The Hague is the international city of peace and justice and there are many opportunities to attend conferences hold by ministers, european comisioners etc.

What are the facilities like?

One of the facilities at this university is DUWO, which helps you to find an accommodation. I don't recommend it because their houses are not so nice and they are pretty expensive. Moreover they are really slow in solving any poblem you could have. Nevertheless, finding an accommodation with DUWO is a very good way of making friends and meeting international students.

The Hague University has a big library where you can find a wide variety of books and you can use the computers. What surprised me about these computers is that you can save your work and every time you log in with your user it is available for you in contrast with my home university where everytime you shut down the computer all the documents are erased.

I really enjoyed the food in the cantine, especially because the prices where considerablly lower than anywhere else in the town. In adittion to this, when the weather is nice (not so often in the Netherlands) is nice to sit outside where you can enjoy the view by the canal.

What are the tutors like?

The International Relations Coordinator is the best. I always knew she would solve any problem I could have. She inspires a lot of confidence making students feel like home.

Are the lessons easy in The Hague University?

The lessons at Hagse Hogeschool are very easy in comparison to the Spanish ones.

Does the University organize activities; what are they like?

If you are Erasmus, one of the project you are going to be probably involved in is Europe@Home. During this project a group of Dutch students will organize a fieldtrip for you and it will help you to make some Dutch friends and learn more about their culture.
