Experience in Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany by Manuel
Generally, what is Hamburg University of Applied Sciences like?
My department "Fashion Design" I would describe it as a good solid education. You get the knowledge you need to survive, but it is a reasonable approach to go abroad in order to experience another understanding of education.
What are the facilities like?
The facilities are quite well equipment, but it is made difficult to use them, because the school's policy to allow the use of special sewing machines only under supervision which is only twice a week.
What are the tutors like?
Different from person to person, but maybe not the top-notch industry leaders. Still, well-informed and a good guidance.
Are the lessons easy in Hamburg University of Applied Sciences?
Definitely not too difficult. It happens very rarely that you do not pass something.
Does the University organize activities? If so, what are they like?
Yes, there are study trips depended on the courses you choose. The participants make it what it is, but normally it is a good experience.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
The german employment system allows professor to stay in their position for a very long time and you can basically not get fired. Sometimes I got the feeling that it would have been good to get new teachers earlier.
Are there any stories you can share?
To get an insight it is an option to have a look at the annual fashion show in the city center of Hamburg.
