What is it like to live in Hanoi? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I lived in Hanoi until i moved to Madrid last year. It's a city full of culture and history. The people are friendly and kind. U might have a language barrier but i think that's part of the experience. Everything is charged reasonably (comparing to other countries). The food is wonderful. If u could, use the motorbike. It's way easier than taking the bus, but if u cant, Grabbike (an app) is quite useful. The traffic will shock u (bad or good depending on ur preference) but i think it's quite unique but always, safety first !!!

What is the student lifestyle like in Hanoi?

Quite chill tbh. Studying could be exhausting and a bit overload but we do know how to loose some steam ;)

How much does it cost to live in Hanoi?

renting: anything from 1,500,000vnd to 12,000,000vnd per month (65USD to 500USD)
Food: really cheap n insanely good quality
Travelling: depending on what ur preference. Before moving to Madrid, i had my own motorbike. It took me 6USD/ week to fill the gas tank. That will varied base on what motorbike u rent but overall, quite cheap n it get u far n fast in the city

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Hanoi? Is there any advice you can give?

It's quite easy. There's plenty agencies n website to find a place for student. Keep in mind, the closer u rent to the center, the higher the rent. Try contacting the school (if u r student) or agencies (if u r working), do some research. I'm sure u'll find some good deals!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Flavorful, rich in culture, tasty n cheap ;) I love all the dishes actually (I'm vietnamese so i have to) but try all if u could. It's totally worth it !

What places would you recommend visiting in Hanoi?

The old Quarter, West Lake, any small coffee shop on the side of the road, museums, night market, ...

Is it good to eat out in Hanoi? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it's an amazing experience: a chance to be close to the locals n make new friends. I'd advise u to choose a kinda clean looking restaurant or dinner or take some pill with u just in case. Not all would give u stomachache but u cant be too careful.

Is the nightlife good in Hanoi? Where is good to go?

Yes, very exciting!!! During the week n weekends !!! Bars, pub, kareoke, Old quarter, West lake, Walking street, any coffee shops, dinners, restaurants that open til 2am. Even just drinking beers around the corner with a good dish of steamed chicken, good friends on a summer night would be lovely.

What advice would you give future students heading to Hanoi?

be open minded, be respectful, be adventurous, be safe, enjoy n have fun !!!
