What is it like to live in Haarlem? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Haarlem is a nice city to live in. It has a nice shopping centre, lots of restaurants and the good thing is that it is close to bigger cities, such as Amsterdam.

What is the student lifestyle like in Haarlem?

On Thursday it is student night in Haarlem, which is actually really nice, because a lot of international students gather and go out together, but also a lot of Dutch students join.

How much does it cost to live in Haarlem?

Living in the Netherlands in general is not cheap. Haarlem is an expensive city to live in, but there are plenty of small villages around Haarlem, which are cheaper.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Haarlem? Is there any advice you can give?

Finding an accommodation in Haarlem or near Haarlem is not that difficult. Just check the internet carefully and try to come in contact with other erasmus students, who have been to Haarlem.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are so many different restaurants in Haarlem, so there is something for everybody. Even the supermarkets sell like almost everything,so even if you are from abroad, you can eat like at home.

What places would you recommend visiting in Haarlem?

I would recommend to shop on "de grote markt" and have something to drink there as well.

Is it good to eat out in Haarlem? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are so many good restaurants on de grote markt in haarlem, but also smaller restaurants like la cubanita are great.

Is the nightlife good in Haarlem? Where is good to go?

Student night is really nice in Haarlem, at patronaat and club stalker.

What advice would you give future students heading to Haarlem?

I advice you to join a student (erasmus) club, so they can organize events for you, Otherwise you might be bored
