Erasmus Experience in Genoa, Italy
I want to go to Genoa for my Erasmus mainly for its location: in the north of Italy, near to France and the rest of Europe in general, so I could go on trips and things like that.
The first time I saw the city when I looked it up on Google, it actually looked great, but when I got there, my first impression wasn't as good, not even when I went to an area people say is very beautiful. However, little by little, I began to like the city more and more as the year went on.
It's been quite an abnormal Erasmus experience for me, the first term was the most typically Erasmus; you hang out with a lot of Spanish people, go out partying, meet loads of people, etc. However, the second term was very different, a lot of people left as they were just staying for the first semester, so I started to get to know quite a few Italian people. It's something I'd really recommend doing, not only because you'll get a lot better at the language, but you learn a lot about the city, its traditions, the people and their way of live, etc.
In April, the weather started to get better, and, of course, the Liguria coast seemed to me like one of the most beautiful parts of the entire country and everyone else thought so too. You can get on a train and in 20 minutes you can be in Portofino, Camogli, Nervi, San Fruttuosso, Sestri Levante or Pieve Ligure. They are really spectacular places with crystalline waters, cliffs, beaches, etc.
Without a doubt, the last few months were some of the best months in my life and I developed a lot of love for the city in that time. I would definitely recommend Genoa to anyone who is interested on going on Erasmus and who would like to have a different experience.
