Erasmus Experience in Gandía, Spain by Iryna
Why did you choose to go to Gandía, Spain?
I chose Spain because it was my dream to visit this country. But I never heard about Gandia before. I'm studying here because there is a university.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I don't receive nothing.
What is the student lifestyle like in Gandía?
I think it's a good place for student life (especially for Erasmus students). There is a sea, beach, many clubs and cafes. The university is very close to the student's flats.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Gandía to other students?
I recommend the university without any doubts: there are a lot of good teachers and we have very interesting lessons.
What is the food like?
There were many restaurants with typical Spanish food (paella, tapas, churros, etc. ) for attractive price.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Gandía?
It is the university that helped me to find accommodation. In Gandia price for habitation is more attractive rather in Valencia. For example, I pay only 165 euro/month, when my friend in Valencia pay about 300 euro.
How much does it cost to live in Gandía?
It depends. For me 300 euro/month is enough (including the paying for flat).
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are intensive Spanish courses, that start before the first semestre. But it costs 260 euro for just 2 weeks. And during the year there are free courses.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Gandía from your city?
I'm living in Belarus and for me the cheapest way to get Gandia is to go in Vilnius or Warsaw by train and than to fly in Alicante (from Warsaw) or to Valencia (I fly via Ryanair and I'm doing one change). If you intend to go to Madrid or Barcelona, you should to buy tickets from these cities to Valencia beforehand, because if you buy it in the same day that you go, the price will be very high - about 50 euro. Use sites of Renfe and Avanzabus companies.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Gandía?
Actually I'm not well-informed about it, but usually people go to Varadero.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Gandía?
Barracuda, maybe. There are a lot of big screens -good place to watch football.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The center of Gandia and the entertainment park near.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Gandía in the future?
The winter there is quite cold and some buildings even don't have heating. But you can just to ask for some additional blankets in the agency.
