Generally, what is Fudan University like?

It is a leading research university in the country attracting thousands of the most outstanding students in the country every year. The university is fast expanding to include three other campuses, Zhangjiang, Jiangwan & Fenglin, beside the traditional century-old campus in Yangpu district. The old campus is located near the "pentagon square", full of shopping malls, restaurants and bars, a truly metropolitan area.

What are the facilities like?

Most classrooms are well-equipped, but not all rooms are air-conditioned. The newly erected Guanghua building is a highly modernized construction and the most well-equipped teaching unit in the university. As it is likely to get incredibly hot in Shanghai during summer times, it is also advisable to seek the libraries for shelter. They are usually very well-equipped.

What are the tutors like?

Most tutors & lecturers are easy-going, and relaxed persons. Most of them are happy to communicate with students and hold regular office hours.

Are the lessons easy in Fudan University?

I personally think lessons are not easy in the best schools, especially science courses. The School of Biology and the School of Informtion are two of the most well-known science schools. The schools of Economics, Management, Chinese and Journalism are the most famous humanity & Social Sciences schools.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

There are lots of activities organized by student societies and the student unions. There are music festivals, singing contests, mountaineering clubs, outdoor clubs, film appreciation societies, debate contests, dance parties, etc.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

Academically speaking most teachers are fully qualified. But as to good teaching, it is advisable to consult senior students in you school or department. As teaching is a highly individual matter experience will come of help in this case.

Are there any stories you can share?

Former chancellor of Nottingham University Professor Yang Fujia graduated from Fudan.
