Legend's Lake, by Francesco D'Avolio
One of the most beautiful places in the Gargano (Apulia) is Varano Lake. The lake is a true paradise for the fishermen of the place and it offers the most beautiful sunsets. There is a really striking legend about this lake.
The people say that there was a city to the place of the lake that was called "Uria", governed by King Tauro. They were people with violent behaviours who provoked the God rage. God showered on the city a deluge that destroyed everything. Only one person survived: a girl called "Nunzia". She had a good character and it was passing her days with the prayer, with her work and with hed boyfriend. Seeing the disaster and seeing her boyfriend in danger, she decided to throw a wool ball between the lake to save her future husband, but her attempt give no results. But that gesture stopped the deluge. Only one habitation was saved: Nunzia's house. People say that the girl's soul keeps on fluttering in the lake and that in certain nights she sing her lost love.
