P12 – International Parador
I’ve told you in another entry where to party in Florianópolis, for Erasmus and non-Erasmus, and I remember naming this club when I told you that in the northern part of the island there was a more ‘elitist’ type of party, in the Jurerê Internacional area.
Of course, without wanting to diminish the charm of the place, just to mention that perhaps it isn’t within reach for everybody, well it’s a place where money makes itself known, even so, it’s worth skipping a cocktail in the evening to be able to enjoy a night in this club.
If anybody is interested and wants more details about what I’m speaking about in this entry, you can find:
1. Their Facebook profile: P12, Jurerê Internacional.
2. Their official page.
Getting down to business now, I’ll tell you a bit about the famous Club P12:
This famous beach club is located in Jurerê Internacional (a place situated in the North of the Florianópolis island that has a high purchasing power).
It’s a club with various swimming pools, with 4 excellent bars and restaurants, where you can choose between trying their tasty (and expensive) dishes in the same restaurant or in one of the many cabins (some with private jacuzzis).
There are all types of opinions about the service in the club and I’ve heard more than once from a local that they’ve bought a cabin with a Jacuzzi that didn’t work, that they didn’t manage to fix and they still paid the same price. Keep this in mind, or ask for other opinions if you’re considering enjoying this expensive luxury.
The huge range of facilities, allows us equally to sunbathe next to the pools, as to enjoy the many concerts of all types of music in the evening, from electro to sertanejo (Brazilian country music), samba to pop-rock. What’s more, being at the foot of the beach, there is easy access to the Jureré beach in case anybody wishes to change chlorine water for the salt water of the sea, which provides the opportunity to escape the busy and crowded environment that happens sometimes.
The establishment is quite a family place to party, if you choose the right day and season. Of course in summer, as well as the tickets being more expensive, it’s easier to meet other foreign people or Brazilians that come to enjoy their holidays at the famous Club Mané. On the other hand, it should be mentioned that the club offers shows and concerts with a huge number of people from the music scene, as during my stay on the island I went to a concert by the well-known Sao Jorge.
The entry price includes the cloakroom and Access to the pools with views of the Jureré beach and Access to the patio joined to the main stage. The negative point is having to pay even more to access the VIP zone and therefore be able to enjoy the music in certain circumstances.
You are not allowed to enter the premises with food or drink from outside and there i slots of security, so it’s important to consider that, as well as the entry price, you’ll have to consider what you’ll spend inside the club on drinks and snacks.
The club’s management reccommends that people go well-dressed in order to not be “out of place” but there are no objections to accessing the facilities in flip-flops and bikinis for example.
The changing romos and bathrooms are always clean, due to the huge cleaning team that they rely on.
In my opinion, to redeem the expensive entry price (120 reals, 40€), it’s better to go in good weather and enjoy the sun in the pool or on the beach, to then go to one of the concerts, until the closure. During the entirety of the club’s opening hours (from 2pm to closing time at 1 o’clock in the morning) you can use all of their services.
The entry price vary greatly, according to the season, the day of the week and if there is a show or a special event like the Sao Jorge concert. Normally, the opening times are from 2 o’clock in the afternoon until 1 o’clock in the morning, although sometimes this varies, being for example from 8 o’clock at night until 5 o’clock in the morning.
Especially for Spanish people, bear in mind that the daily routine times in Madrid are very different, although when it’s time to party it doesn’t matter. I mean, they wake up between 6 and 7 o’clock in the morning to begin work at 8 (which in Spain would be 10 o’clock in the morning); their midday really is the middle of the day, which means, they eat at 12 or very late at 1 (whilst in Spain they eat between 2 and 3 o’clock); in the evening people go home at 6pm and the latest any shop is open until is 8pm (which in Spain would correspond to the day finishing between 8 and 8. 30pm and the last shops closing at 10pm). The evening meal is between 9 and 10pm and by midnight everyone is asleep (I won’t explain the meal or bed time in Spain since it varies quite a lot). Therefore I’d say that in terms of the parties, maybe you won’t see a big time difference, since they stay open until the early hours of the morning, but know that if a place closes at 3am, it would be around 5am in Spain…
The complex has ample parking spaces and if you decide to go by bus, you’ll have to return in a taxi, since there is no public transport at this time.
On my first night of partying with the rest of the exchange students in Lagoa, I met a lot of foreign students and some of them told me that the next day there was a party at P12, that they already had their tickets but there was still time to get mind, which, of course was worth it.
I thought about it a lot, however, it was too expensive (not just the entry price but the taxi costs, the drinks you’re going to have…). Also the night of partying would have continued into the following day. Some Sevillian girls welcomed me into their house, and they turned out to be neighbours of the gang this morning who were going to P12, so we said goodbye as some were going to bed and others were waking up to go to another big party.
Their opinion had of course been positive (as in to not dislike the place) but they hadn’t felt “in with” the atmosphere. Not that this matters much when you’re an Erasmus and what you want is to know places, people and go to parties but when someone goes in swim shorts or a bikini and flip-flops and everyone surrounding them is in expensive, branded party dresses… it feels like you’ve got the wrong place.
The day was nice, but cloudy, certainly not a day that provoked an urge for a “pool party” but the club sells itself not only as an inside venue higher than any other on the island, but also as a club that houses the best pool parties. Well, there was even a question of whether we could get into the pool, since nobody there was up for taking a dip. Of course there was no problem and what started as something quite tame ended up being a party for 5 people messing around in the pool trying to hold the record of surviving outside of the water without being pushed in by a friend.
Here I’ll leave you a Youtube video of P12 so that you can see for youself.
