Near Coimbra there is a beach city called Figueira da Foz. It is a nice place to spend the summer in the sun, sand and sea. The city is where the Mondego river meets the sea, so it's an important harbour and it has a great view.

The first beach you'll see in the city is Praia do Forte de Santa Catarina. It is just in front of Santa Catarina's fortification and a great place to stay. It is a small beach, with calm water and less windy than the others in the city - so it won't be so hard to face the cold water!

Near this beach you will find restaurants, a harbour and you can enjoy a great view. It's a good place for children and to chill. After resting there you can visit the other beaches, which are bigger and windier (some of them even have sand stormes).

How to go
You can get to Figueira da Foz by train (or comboio, like the portuguese say). From Coimbra it costs about 2,50 euros and the trip takes 1 hour and a half. Really easy to go and totally worth the visit!
