Introduce yourself to the forum and ask any questions you may have about the city, the University, where to stay, where to eat, the prices and cost of living in Faro, places for Erasmus parties or any other question you may habe. Here you can also find:
- The general forum for Faro

Hi guys! I had a quick question: I will be in Faro starting from next academix year, and I am considering living in university accomodation. Firstly, are many international students doing this, or would I be better off looking for a flatshare? (I don't speak a word of Portuguese!) And my other question is: where can I find some infos on uni accommodation? I tried to look for it online, but I couldn't find ANYTHING. I just want to know things like their location, prices, and most importantly pictures.
Hope someone can help me! Thanks a lot!

Well hello to you too!
Im also plannig to stay in Faro next year (it is not 100% yet, but it should be done deal eventualy). Can´t really help you with your question Juliette, because... i dont have a clue either! :D Well.. i`ve spoken with some students who have been abroad (not Faro) and they have been living in flats mostly.. but on the other hand that really depends of place you are at... I will probally look for flat, shared with other erasmus/international students..
I know one Portuguese word and it goes: Ola or Oi! :D pretty good.. right? i know.. :D
take care..
p.s.: also looking for some help and information :D tnx!

Haha that's ok, thanks for replying ;)
Well you know one more word than me in that case!
I'll probably go for a flatshare too, I just find it annoying that there isn't more info available in English. At least I'm not the only one who is struggling with the language :)
thanks again!

:D haha.. you`re welcome! ;) Thank you.. because i was a little bit afraid of lack of people who speak English..especially due to what i have seen on this forum.. :))
In that case, i think you will be extremly "annoyed" in Faro.. and you definetely won`t be the only one! :D :D English is not really their best atribute :D We all gonna need to learn the language.. and it ain`t going to be an easy task.. (:
may i ask where you come from? :)
bye

Hi!!
I´m from the basque country (spain) and I don´t speak any word of portuguese too...I think i won´t have a big problem with the language because it´s similar to spanish.
I wanted to go to another country to practise my english but my final decision is going to Faro.
If I find any information about accomodation or anything else I´ll tell you.

That's great, thanks a lot! Yeah I really don't think you should have any problems speaking Spanish (or less than others at least). I'm French :) I hope there'll be many other international students!!!

Hello! I'm also heading to Faro next year and am looking at flatsharing rather than residencias. I'm a bit nervous because I'm the only person going this year from my University and I'll actually be working at the university rather than going to lectures. Hopefully it'll be an easy transition. I'm in the process of learning a bit of portuguese but we'll have to see how that goes. It's nice to see some people going too who speak English because so far I have been relying on Google Translate! Hope to talk to you all a bit more. :)

I also forgot to say that I have "followed" a few of you, so feel free to do the same. Although this is a bit late, Juliette you were asking for university accommodation and I found the information from this website: http://www.sas.ualg.pt/residencias.html but it is all in portuguese so I translated it. I think it's pretty easy to arrange a flatshare and the international office helps too.

I'm going from September til June and will be in the biotechnologia labs. I applied through my university and they sent me the registration by email. I've been contacting the international mobility staff and they have been very helpful but there isn't much on the website, unfortunately. I suggest you call them to check about everything since the deadline for me is May 30th.

hey everyone :)! I am a Pharmacy student from Slovenia, and I will be probably working on my diploma work in the biotechnologia labs in Algarve also, starting in October. I am also looking for a flatshare accommodatin, unfortunately haven't found anything yet :D!
I have been studying in Lisbon for one year, so I speak a little bit of portuguese, but I guess that doesn't help much, if no one is responding your e-mails haha :P
Does anyone have any new informations about the acommodatin possibilities?

Hey people, I'm also starting at Uni. Algarve from September, marine biology course. Would be interested in looking for a flatshare with fellow English speakers (not necessarily native speakers, just nice people who I can hold a conversation with). I'm thinking about taking a cheap flight out to Portugal around the end of July to check out accommodation. Anyone interested in looking for a place to share, get in touch! Rob

Hey guys!.
I'm with 2 mates looking for an apartment to stay the course 2012-2013, we are all students of sports science. If someone is in the same situation or have found floor and need colleagues with whom I live, we would be happy. We will study at the University of Algarve.

Hi everyone! I am doing my erasmus mundus at the algarve uni, and this will be my second year there. So if you need any info, feel free to ask. About accommodation, some people stay at the dorms, but the majority rent rooms in Faro. Here a lot of landlords rent by rooms, not apartments, so you dont have to worry about finding roommates. If you chose the dorm, it will be 2 people in one room, so keep that in mind. The sites that I would recommend to find rooms is http://www.bquarto.pt/faro/quarto_faro.phtml and http://www.custojusto.pt/Faro/1120-Quartos?na=1. Also, even if some of the landlords advertise Montenegro and Gambelas as in the or near the city, they are quite far, and the bus connections are not that good.
Hope this helps. Good luck :)
