What is it like to live in Falmouth? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Beautiful landscape- gorgeous sea views from pretty much everywhere in town and lovely costal walks. Even if you are going to study on Penryn campus I would advise living in Falmouth and catching the bus to Penryn, which runs about every 15 minutes from town. The nightlife is a little lacking, lots of good pubs though and one or two places that could pass as clubs. The students often make they're own nightlife with house/flat parties and some gathering on the beach, which are always good fun if a little windy.

What is the student lifestyle like in Falmouth?

There is a great sense of student family in Falmouth, and there is a lot of freedom to do and wear what you like because everyone is quite arty. It's kind of like living at a festival- everything is very laid back and happy. The majority of people who live in Falmouth are students and retired elderly people, which makes for an odd mix, but there are also some young families and at the weekend town is usually packed.

How much does it cost to live in Falmouth?

I live on about £80 a week, including printing for my course and at least one night out a week. The pubs are quite expensive- roughly £4 a pint but there is a wetherspoons if you want cheap booze.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Falmouth? Is there any advice you can give?

There are quite a lot of student houses in Falmouth due to the amount of students. If you are coming over for a semester and want to rent a room then there is a falmouth erasmus page on Facebook where you can post and people will probably offer you a room.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

the food is amazing and there is and abundance of restaurants an cafes in town. Obviously the seafood is amazing but there are also some great cake places in town. You will never be short of places to eat!

What places would you recommend visiting in Falmouth?

Pendents Castle is lovely and personally I like the Maritime Museum but I know some people find it quite boring. Falmouth is a pretty small place so if you really want to explore it's best to venture out of town, along the coastal paths or use the buses to go to other near-by towns. Truro is a short train journey away and is good for shopping.

Is it good to eat out in Falmouth? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Meat counter for purgers. Shed for cocktails. Wildebeest for vegan/vegetarian food. Espressini for the best coffee ever.

Is the nightlife good in Falmouth? Where is good to go?

Wetherspoons for cheap food and drinks. Beer wolf for some great student culture. The Irish pup for live music and Club I for sticky floors and cheesy music.

What advice would you give future students heading to Falmouth?

Get out and make the most of the area and how beautiful it is and don't be afraid to join local clubs as well as student societies, everyone is lovely.
