For some reason you can’t go to Munich to enjoy the famous and crazy Oktoberfest? Don’t worry! I suggest you the Erfurter Oktoberfest.
It takes place every year in the small city of Erfurt, usually from 27. September until 12. October. The city offers many events during the Oktoberfest, like parades, family days, stands and a lot of concerts.
You will find the Oktoberfest easily because it’s right in the city center. A big wheel will welcome you! You can go on it and enjoy the city Erfurt with its wonderful cathedral. Not only: you can also feel like you’re a child again and play with Autoscooter, pirates adventures and dance break music. Then you can go through different kind of stands and try all the delicious german sweets or the classic thüringer Wurst. Let’s say however, that the real Oktoberfest atmosphere is to be found where the beer is. Take a sit with your friends at one of the big tables you’ll find in the biggest covered place of the square, order a cold beer (which will be much way cheaper than the one you could buy in Munich) and start making new friends.
Concerned to my personal experience, the Erfurter Oktoberfest was the first big event i joined when I arrived in Germany for my Erasmus year. I found the atmosphere there so relaxed and funny. It was amazing to see so many people being kind and friendly with everyone, singing all together some old german songs. I admitt I had no idea of what they were singing, but that carzy night was one of the best during my staying in Germany. No matter if you go there in a small group, you’ll go back home with lots of new friend of all age and nationalities. Usually germans are seen as cold and unfriendly people, but if you think that too, is simply because you have met them at the wrong time. I had never met so open and and smiling people.
Live music is played every day during this event and believe me, it’s so funny to join the people and sing and dance on the notes of the playing band!
If you are in Germany at the beginning of October and want to experience a crazy night, without having to spend too much money, stop in Erfurt and Prost!
