Experience in Eger, Hungary, by Viola
What is it like to live in Eger? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Eger is a really old town, founded in the 10th century by King Stephen I of Hungary. It's famous for its history and for its castle where the Hungarian men and women won against the Turkish soldiers.
Most of the architecture is baroque; the city has many churches and also a basilica. Eger has a good vibe, old buildings, narrow streets...
Eger is also called "the city of the schools": there is a university (founded in the 18th century), many gymnasiums and elementary schools.
Eger is famous for its wine: there are many cellars, especially in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman which tourists like very much.
The city also offers many cultural activities.
What places would you recommend visiting in Eger?
The Minaret, the Basilica, the Lyceum (Eszterházy Károly University), the Castle of Eger, the Valley of the Beautiful Woman, the Turkish Spa and Érsekkert park.
