Experience in Edinburgh, United Kingdom by paris

What is it like to live in Edinburgh? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Yes I would recommend someone to come and visit or even stay at Edinburgh. In the beginning you may find it huge, but after a month or so, if you start exploring it you will find it easy to learn. It has everything that a University student will ask for. And also it's very safe. Most of the time you hear ambulance siren rather than police.

What is the student lifestyle like in Edinburgh?

It has everything. It covers every taste of student. If you like party, if you like sports, hiking, it even has a small river where people can go for canoeing.

How much does it cost to live in Edinburgh?

It depends if you like quality food or not. I would say though in an average 200 pounds per month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Edinburgh? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult but you have to look for it. There are also a lot of websites, and in Facebook, there are pages to help you find an accommodation. What you have to do is decide where you want to live. And start looking 3 months before you come here.

What is the food like? What are your favorite dishes?

I would say that it's not the best. The quality of products is not good. You can find though some shops that are better than the others. But... again don't expect much.

What places would you recommend visiting in Edinburgh?

You must go everywhere. A nice idea is to go for a tour, not in the city but in the highlands. They start from 40-60 pounds. They are totally worth it. In Edinburgh you must to Arthur's seat, Castle, Princes street Gardens, some museums...

Is it good to eat out in Edinburgh? Can you tell us your favorite spots?

Yes you can find every kind of food you want. From Italian to Indian.

The prices are between 7 to 14 pounds.

Rose street has some good restaurants. What I would recommend to everyone is to get an RBS credit card. After 3 months they give you a taste card, so you have a 50% discount or 2for1 in 50 places all around Edinburgh It's a nice way to save money!

Is the nightlife good in Edinburgh? Where is good to go?

Yes it is, there are many good clubs. What people do here is, they have pre-drinks at home, and then they go out! In order not to pay so much in drinks at the club.

The hive(club), is only good to go a few times, people go there more to make out, and get laid.

The tribe is very good, people go there to actually have fun, and the music is EDM, house most of the times.

Can is good as well, you have to be careful though what day you go because it may be empty.

After most of the clubs are at Cowgate...

What advice would you give future students heading to Edinburgh?

Be careful what kind of friends you will do. Most Scottish people haven’t travelled a lot; therefore they are not so open minded. I believe that after 3 months a person shows you his real identity. So be open to meet new people every day and enjoy!
