Experience in Edinburgh, United Kingdom by Elene
What is it like to live in Edinburgh? Would you recommend it? How is it?
It is a welcoming city, I don't know why. The truth is that climate isn't the best, meaning that cycling isn't the best option to travel around day by day. The truth is that everything is "quite" close to the centre, 25-30 minutes walking distance, but another option is to take the bus which costs £1. 50 per trip, or there is a subscription for £39 a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Edinburgh?
There is a student atmosphere but it's different, all the pubs close at 3 am so you have to start the night out a lot earlier.
How much does it cost to live in Edinburgh?
The cost of living is a lot more expensive here than in Spain, whether it be housing, food... It all depends on which area you live in, but £350 a month would be the minimum, and that's living quite far from the centre.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Edinburgh? Do you have any advice?
It was quite difficult as I only went there for a short period of time, so it made the process harder. The easiest way to find a flat is to come to Edinburgh and search in person here.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Let's say that I don't eat the traditional Scottish food daily, like Haggis... My diet is based on what I usually would eat at home. The fruit and vegetables from the supermarket aren't very good but that's all there is.
What places would you recommend visiting in Edinburgh?
Without a doubt, you have to visit all of Old Town. Arthur's sheet is also really cool to see views of the whole city. In terms of tours, I recommend doing the evening and the day ones through the Old town which are free, well, you pay via donation. The trip to explore the passageways is worthwhile doing, although you have to pay more. Moreover, many museums are free, so if you go for a little bit of time it will be worth it.
Is it good to eat out in Exeter? What are some of your favourite places to go?
The Standing Order has really good food and the price reflects the quality. It used to be a bank and it does every kind of food.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Edinburgh?
Above all, the Old town, and the areas Grassmarket and Cowgate.
