Erasmus Experience in Edinburgh, United Kingdom by Nina
Why did you choose to go to Edinburgh, United Kingdom?
I wanted to go to an English speaking country and the UoE is Very high rated. It offered courses within my interest and I was attracted by Scotland’s nature.
What is the student lifestyle like in Edinburgh?
The city has a lot to offer for students in terms of entertainment, coffee shops, good food deals etc. I’d say the nightlife is quite focussed on younger students but there are some good places!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Edinburgh to other students?
Definitely, it is a super nice and easy city to feel at home in. The uni offers a lot of help for international students if you would like to use that. They seem to be really aware of how hard (international) student life can be like sometimes and communicate clearly that they are there to help you.
What is the food like?
You can find a lot of different cuisines in the city. Some restaurants are pricy but there’s Also great student deals to find. Very Vegetarian and vegan friendly!
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Edinburgh?
If you like techno, find a good party in The Mash House!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Edinburgh?
Mother India, Lancers, Soba, Hendersons, Hectors, Ransacked black oven and many more
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Go up to Arthurs Seat for a great view of the city and a friendly hike or Calton Hill if you’re not feeling that sporty. Do the walk of leith along the water towards the modern art gallery (free). The national museum and portrait gallery are also good and for free. Go up to the castle and if you can go inside, there’s an entire ‘village’ bidden behind it. Walk through the botanical gardens and go to portobello beach!
