Erasmus Experience in Edinburgh, the United Kingdom by Pablo

Why did you choose to go to Edinburgh, the United Kingdom?

In principal, I did it because I wanted to see if I would be able to hold my own studying a degree abroad and I didn't realise at all, that it would be one of the best decisions that I have made up to this date.

How long does the grant last? How much money do you receive as aid?

The initial grant was for 6 months and I extended it to 10. I received a total of €7, 000.

How is student life in Edinburgh?

Brilliant.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Edinburgh to other students?

I wasn't at the University of Edinburgh. I was at the Heriot-Watt University. In any case, of course I would recommend it.

How is the country's food?

I love gastronomy in general and it is delicious although it can be a little too strong for people with stomach issues.

Was it hard to find accommodation in Edinburgh?

No, it's not difficult at all.

How much does it cost to live in Edinburgh?

It depends on where you want to live. There all sorts!

How is the language? Did you go to any course in the University?

The language well, it's hard at first because of the fact you have to switch your thinking to English but you adapt quickly. (You have to be motivated when you go). I went to the English course one week but it wasn't focused on what I really needed.

What is the most efficient way of arriving to Edinburgh from your city?

The most efficient way was laying over in Barcelona (due to the compatibility of hours). Really, the cheapest flight was with a layover in Frankfurt.

Which places would you recommend to go out and party in Edinburgh?

Grassmarket and New Town.

And to go out to eat in Edinburgh? Can you cite your favourite places?

I'd recommend Elephant House for the beautiful views of the castle...

And for cultural visits?

I do not recommend doing a 4 day cultural tour because Edinburgh has some beautiful sites which explain the history of the city and aren't always easy to find. By all means, you see the Old Town straight away and all the museums are free and worth going to see (even living there for almost a year, I couldn't see them all).

Any advice that you want to give to future students in Edinburgh?

Enjoy everything from the first instant because it has a fantastic, magical atmosphere - not to mention the people, who are all very friendly and ready to help you!
