What is it like to live in Durban? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Durban is a vibrant city with a multi cultural atmosphere. I would recommend it for a truly unique cultural experience. We have great sunny weather for most of the year and our sea is warm all the time so great for swimming.

What is the student lifestyle like in Durban?

Student lifestyle is good and there is a decent nightlife at affordable prices.

How much does it cost to live in Durban?

Cost of living is average and rates are similar to most holiday cities. Food is generally quite cheap but accommodation is pricier in the better areas.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Durban? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is relatively easy to find.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food here is multi cultural and very yummy. We have a huge Indian population in Durban so this place is very popular for Indian Curries and delicacies. The famous dish in Durban is the famous "Bunny Chow"' which is a curry served inside a half loaf of bread, highly recommended. Other food choices are the local meat varieties which are grilled on an open fire.

What places would you recommend visiting in Durban?

Definitely Umhlanga is a great place to start. Other choices would be Valley of a Thousand Hills, Tala Game Reserve and Ushaka Marine World.

Is it good to eat out in Durban? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes there are many different varieties and food spots to check out. You could start at Ill Maurice in Umhlanga or Jaipur Palace for a good Durban Curry. And dont forget Chesa Nyama for an authentic African meat experience

Is the nightlife good in Durban? Where is good to go?

'The nightlife is good depending on the area you are staying in. Generally the towns near the beaches are best such as Umhlanga and Ballito.

What advice would you give future students heading to Durban?

If you would like an authentic African experience in a warm multi cultural city, then Durban is the place for you!
