My Experience in Dijon, France by Mickaël
How did you find living in Dijon? Would you recommend it? What is the town like?
For an Erasmus student, the city is enjoyable and full of surprises. It is a great time to explore this city as they have recently completed a significant amount of construction, including the installation of two tramways last year.
What is student life like in Dijon?
As an Erasmus student, if you live in the same residence as other Erasmus students, you will have a great time. If you only have contact with French people, this will require a lot of hard work. If you want to speak with a French student, I would advise making the first move. A good grasp of the French language will obviously help you during your time in France and it will help you appreciate the charms of this country and it's population.
What is the cost of living in Dijon?
The price of a bus or tram ticket is 1, 50€ (1, 20€ if you charge your reusable card). You can also purchase a monthly pass - this costs 25, 50€ for those aged 18-25.
You can buy a culture card (€5) at the Maison de l'Etudiant. This card allows you to go to the theatre or the opera for a lower price.
Mobile contracts cost around 15€.
In general, the living cost in Dijon isn't overly expensive if you know the tips and tricks. Dijon is definitely more affordable than Paris. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to have some savings in order to survive the first few months, especially if you don't want to dip into your grant straight away.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dijon? What advice would you give?
A good way to find accommodation in Dijon is to search through online announcements. By doing this, I immediately found my studio. A WARNING to those who are looking to stay in the CROUS buildings, especially the Mansart residence (for cheaper rent some buildings, such as Pavillon Sens, only offer rooms of 9m² with communal toilets and showers for the whole floor.
What is the food like in the town? What are your favourite dishes?
There are plenty of bakeries, university restaurants, and a McDonalds near the university campus. However, if you like healthier, more tasty food, I would advise cooking for yourself especially if you don't live very far from the university.

What advice would you give to future Erasmus students in Dijon?
If you truly want to get to know a town, a country, a people, don't come for a single semester but instead come for a full year in order to truly benefit from the experience.
