Why did you choose to go to Den Helder, Netherlands?

Being a design student myself, I had heard a lot about the advanced level of graphic design in the Netherlands among other things, hence, I chose Den Helder.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

5 months. I receive no money for living costs.

What is the student lifestyle like in Den Helder?

People are very focussed. The work ethic is strong and consistent. It's intimidating at first to see how focussed everyone is, but eventually you yourself are motivated to work.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Den Helder to other students?

I certainly would.

What is the food like?

I haven't tried much of the typical dutch cuisine. But going for grocery shopping is a treat. There is a lot of choice in terms of prices and kinds of food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Den Helder?

It is tough to find accommodation. Fortunately I have a relative here who helped me, so I did not face many problems.

How much does it cost to live in Den Helder?

475 euros a month for a good room. There are cheaper options such as 350 or 400 per month

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The Language isn't so easy to grasp for me atleast. There are courses at the university however.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Den Helder?

Pip or Pard Van Troje. One could also always casually have a couple of beers and enjoy the festivity of Grote Markt with its lights and bars and outdoor sit outs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Den Helder?

Miami at Grote Markt.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Escher Museum, the Peace palace, the Parliament building, International court of Justice and many more that I am yet to find out about.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Den Helder in the future?

Be prepared for the wind. It's very strong. My least favourite part.
