Experience in Constanta, Romania by Maria
What is it like to live in Constanta? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Nice weather with sun even in winter (even if the winters are quite cold).
It's a seaside city (with beaches in the city center), with the sea (Black Sea) nearby and a lot of seaside resorts at a few kilometers (4 km from Constanta for the 1st of them).
Good food and, if you make some (new) friends, working/studying or partying together could be fun as well.
The city as a human size (even if, in terms of population, it is a big one : about 400. 000 inhabitants).
How much does it cost to live in Constanta?
Accomodation for less than 500 € / month
Food : 50 € / month
Restaurants for 15-20 € / person
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Constanta? Is there any advice you can give?
It dépends : some landlords use, unfortunatelly, to ask their tenants to leave completelly during summer, in order to rent out the apartments for tourists. Personnally, even if I have also an apartment to be rented out, I don't find it very honest and I never do it like this.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is good there in general.
And, as it is a seaside town, you find always good, fresh, fish.
What places would you recommend visiting in Constanta?
the seaside resorts, history museum, art museum, maritime museum
Is it good to eat out in Constanta? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Marco Polo Restaurant
Irish Pub
New Safari Restaurant (very good for fish, but quite pricey)
What advice would you give future students heading to Constanta?
Life is a lot cheaper than in other parts of Europe.
Bucharest (the capital) is at only 2-2. 5 hours drive.
If you need to relax, the beaches are nearby.
