Why did you choose to go to Carrara, Italy?

I have chosen to go to Carrara beacuse I love Italian culture and because I wanted to improve my Italian language skills. I also thought of living in a small city so it would have been easier for me to accommodate.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I was supposed to study one semester, but because of the Covid-19 pandemy I turned home after 3 days of study. I recevied 17 euro/day.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Carrara to other students?

I could not say because I only studied 3 days at the University, but Carrara is a quiet, picturesque city, you must visit it if you love Italian culture. I would not recommend it for students who fancy partying, clubbing etc.

What is the food like?

Italian food is great. I didn't have the opportunity to try the local plates, but I will do it next time maybe: tordelli al ragu, larda di colonnata, torta d'erbe, il baccala, pasta con fagioli.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Carrara?

Yes, it really did. They do not have accomodation for students and one has to search through agency or on facebook marketplace, but it may depend on your requirements. The cost would be around 450-500 euro/month, but if it is divided, that's better.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Beacuse Italians do not speak English, especially in small cities, you will be exposed to the language more. I do not know if the Univeristy has language courses, but the Erasmus program will offer you an online course anyway.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Carrara from your city?

I traveled by plane with the Wizz Air company.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Carrara?

La capinera, Le zie, Merope are the most popular places among locals.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Marble quarry, Saint Andrea dome, the seaport

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Carrara in the future?

You should consider that the buses operate until 8-9 o'clock, so if you won't rent a place near University(center), you will take the bus. Contact me if you have any specific questions: [email protected]
