What is it like to live in Caracas? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Right now a bit dangerous but it depends where you go. The weather is amazing and the montain is there as the city is a valle. The beach is at 20/30 min from the city and there are plenty of outdoors activities to do.

What is the student lifestyle like in Caracas?

Students usually stay within the college/university and study and hang out there all day. There are not many libraries outside in the city.

How much does it cost to live in Caracas?

It is very expensive as the country has exchange control.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Caracas? Is there any advice you can give?

It is if you want to rent. There are however, agencies that help international students to find host families.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Really good. Arepas is a must (kinda corn bread). Pabellon... and in general, many restaurants in the city, with international food.

What places would you recommend visiting in Caracas?

Avila mountain, Las Mercedes, Los palos Grandes, El Hatillo.

Is it good to eat out in Caracas? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Sure it is, there are many options. In las Mercedes there are so many restaurants to choose from. One of my favrites is Mocambo.

Is the nightlife good in Caracas? Where is good to go?

It is great. Also in Las Mercedes or in El Hatillo, there are nice bars and disccos.

What advice would you give future students heading to Caracas?

Always find someone from the city to be with. They will not where to go and where not to. Avoid taking taxis in the street, always call a taxi. Do not take you camera out just anywhere, beware of your sourrandings.
