What is it like to live in Cagliari? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Cagliari is a very beautiful city. Here there are a lots of students, though isn't a too big town. It's situated in the south of Sardinia, near the sea, then the weather is enough warm, but also humid. There is often the sun and sometimes a little of wind. There are many monuments to visit and so many places where you can see a very beautiful landscape.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cagliari?

The students in Cagliari can move easily with public transport (CTM), which offers cheaper tickets for students. With the bus you can get the university and also the Poetto beach, but it doesn't pass over night, after the half past eleven. Almost all the faculties are not very far from the center, except the Citadel University of Monserrato in which there are some degree courses such as medicine, biology, health professions. Near the faculties there are also university refectory, where cheap you make complete meals. Events are often organized by university associations such as small open air concerts or sporting events. Is very nice because you have the opportunity to know a lot of guys.

How much does it cost to live in Cagliari?

Cagliari isn't a very expensive city. Rents range between 200 and 300 euros, more or less. It depends on the areas (for example, in the centre and in the area of "Via Dante" the apartments are a little more expensive). Often certain expenses such as water or condominium are included in the rent. In the town there are many discount stores or shopping malls where the grocery store is cheaper.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cagliari? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it isn't, because there are a lots of flats or single rooms for students, also near the faculties. You can find different ads on the internet.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Cagliari you can eat a different kind of food. You can find tipical Sardinian restaurants, but also Chinese, Japanese, Mexican restaurants, some places where you can eat pizza, kebab or sandwiches, where there are also cheaper menu for students. You can find many shops where can buy sweets of various kind, expecially in the centre.

What places would you recommend visiting in Cagliari?

In the center there are a lot of monuments such as churches and medieval towers (the tower of the elephant) and also is very nice the Bastion of Saint Remy, or the turistic port, Via Roma, Piazza Yenne, where, especially on weekends, there are lots of people. There are also some parks, such as Monte Claro or Monte Urpino, where there are also some animals such as ducks, geese, swans. Then the Public Gardens, or the castle of St Michael. In short, there is something for everyone.

Is the nightlife good in Cagliari? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in Cagliari is good because there are differents local where you can go with friends, that stay open until late. Then during the academic year the associations of young universitaries organize events of Thursday night (Giovedì Accademico or Giovedì Universitario) in some discos. Sometimes there are also freedrink and of course the discos are always open on the weekends. Especially in the warmer months, the city is filled with tourists. Often organize concerts or events of differents kinds.

What advice would you give future students heading to Cagliari?

Cagliari is a wonderful city and I think you have to enjoy it to the fullest, in the little things, from nightlife to walking with the sun, monuments, great food. So you will certainly be able to appreciate it in all its aspects.
