4 hour stop in Bydgoszcz

Published by flag- Denys Momot — 4 years ago

Once, my friend decided to go to Sweden. And he was looking for the cheapest way to get there. He asked me to help him and I agreed.

So, we went on the north by the Polish bus corporation Polskibus. After a couple of hours we reached the city Bydgoszscz. That was the 4 hour stop. Bydgoszcz is located in a northern part of Poland. Bydgoszcz used to be under German government. Therefore, the city looks German. After the bus station we went to the old town of Bydgoszcz which was quite close and we got there on foot. While walking we noticed the river Brda with the interesting statue on top. I could not find any information there about it so it still stays a mystery for me. If you zoom the photo below you will see that statue which unites western and eastern parts of the city.

I considered it as an entrance to the old town. When we finally got into the old town we first paid attention to the design of it. It does look very different compare to other cities of Poland. First of all, streets are quite long but wonderful. Old town is surrounded by Gothic architecture style which is a very good sign. However, you may see the Art Nouveau style, too. But for some reason there are not many restaurants and cafes. I think that there should be more restaurants and cafes, otherwise tourists would be hungry and leave the old town very quickly. Secondly, it was not very crowded. However, it looked to me very interesting and even catchy. If you look closer you will see the German architecture style: red bricks reflect their spirit.

After a quick lunch in the old town, we moved further to see the east part. There was nothing but two good-looking store houses that were very clean and white. Additionally, several houses had street art paintings. Some of them were even funny. You may see them below.

After all, the city Bydgoszcz is very interesting to explore although it is quite small. In 3 hours we had time enough to explore the main places and to visit famous monuments. Anyway, after the long walk we came back to the bus station and went to Gdansk, where my friend left for Stockholm and I stayed traveling around Gdansk.
