Erasmus experience at the University of Technology in Cottbus, Germany by Fjollë Kabashi
Why did you choose to go to Cottbus, Germany?
I chose the BTU university because it was the best option my college had to offer. I knew that Germany is a developed country and I had the idea that people were cold, at least I thought so before I got there.
What is it like to live in Cottbus, Germany? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Honestly like all beginnings, this was a difficult journey for me. The first day I was welcomed by a new friend in Cottbus. I was surprised at how you know good people at first sight, I believe in that now. True, they seem cold but the moment you make friends with the Germans they are so warm and helpful. They're serious and fun people, plus they're hard workers.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Cottbus, Germany to other students?
Of course I recommend it! The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus is a technical university in Brandenburg, Germany, with campuses in Cottbus and Senftenberg. During my stay there I got to know many other cultures from all over the world, new foods, drinks and traditional German clothing.
It's a good university!
What is the student lifestyle like in Cottbus, Germany?
The atmosphere is very pleasant and the university has very good teachers, what impressed me was that you always went and talked to your teachers and received excellent suggestions, they always motivated you a lot, they always try to understand and help you solve your problems or difficulties in your studies.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
I started to improve my Spanish while staying with friends from Colombia and dancing salsa. College offers many opportunities to learn.
Knowing what you want, you're there!
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Cottbus, Germany?
I'd honestly like to tell you something, I wasn't a fan of beer, but as you get used to the saying "Let's go for a beer sometimes"; there you go, you start to magically like it.
What advice would you give future students heading to Cottbus, Germany?
I can only tell you, if you have a chance to be at that university, make the most of your time. Something that I loved, was having the opportunity to travel to other countries and cheap prices.
Germany, a simplified way of living!
