What is it like to live in Braga? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Braga is a very "comfortable" city. It's full of places to relax with your friends and have some quality time over a cup of coffee. You have a lot of parks and beautiful views. Besides, you can get anywhere using the bus and it's an affordable city per se, so I would absolutely recommend living here.
What is the student lifestyle like in Braga?
The university life is nothing like you have lived before. Braga has very particular customs in terms of the student life. You have a lot of parties and one day of the week is Erasmus night. There are a lot of things to do and activities to be in. People are very friendly and will help you if you need anything.
How much does it cost to live in Braga?
Life here is very affordable. Rent is not very high (approximately between 90 euros and 150 per month) and the cost of food can be lower than in any other country.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Braga? Is there any advice you can give?
If you need to find a place to live near the university, there are a ton of flyers all around and you can check the Internet for more information, maybe even on the Universidade do Minho website.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
If you come here you are obligated to try codfish, every dish here that has codfish is a must try! The food is delicious and very 'home made'. You also have to try "rojões" and "cozido à portuguesa".
What places would you recommend visiting in Braga?
For starters you have to go to the churches and cathedrals, then "Bom Jesus" and then the beach. The beach is a little far from Braga but you can catch a bus to Ofir from 3 to 6 euros and have a great time.
Is it good to eat out in Braga? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There is a lot of places and a variety of things to experience. Some of the greatest places are the taverns to eat a great typical dish, "francesinha", and you have a lot of artesanal burger places and other types of foods.
Is the nightlife good in Braga? Where is good to go?
For the university students, here in Braga, Wednesday is the day to go out. There are a lot of nightclubs some better some whatever but you should go to BA (academic Bar), Keimodrum or Sardinha biba. These are the places you can get to easily on a Wednesday night. If you, for any other reason want to go out at night there are a ton of coffee places open till late that you can visit even in the city center.
What advice would you give future students heading to Braga?
Be open-minded and try to enjoy the time you spend here. I'm sure will have the time of your life and will meet the most amazing people.
