My Experience in Bologna, Italy - by Paolo

What's the student life like in Bologna?

The University of Bologna is the oldest in Europe, so there are students from all over the world there.

How expensive is life in Bologna?

Between 600 to 700 euros per month for rent, food and various other costs.

Did you find it hard to find accommodation in Bologna? Do you have any tips for flat-hunting?

I come from Bologna and live there! I have lots of friends from other cities though, and from their experience I know that it's not difficult at all to find somewhere to live. There are adverts everywhere, on Via del Guasto in particular.

What's the food like in Bologna? What are your favourite dishes?

Apart from the university, another one of Bologna's excellencies is its gastronomy - Bologna itself is nicknamed 'la Gorda', meaning the fat city! Some of the most famous products of Bologna are tortellini, lasagne, mortadella, tigelle and crescentine, among many others.

What places do you recommend visiting in Bologna?

Le due Torri (climbing the 'Torre degli Asinelli'), Piazza Maggiore, the university area and campus, San Luca, l'Archiginnasio, i Mercati... but really there are hundreds of things to discover!

What are the best places for partying in Bologna?

There are some local pubs and clubs, but there are also outside parties in the university area.

Do you have any advice for future students coming to Bologna?

Bologna is a magical place, and whoever gets the opportunity to spend time there should feel very lucky.

    Hi Pouya,
I'm just the translator for this article, but you could always send the original author Paolo Costantino a message (his profile is linked at the top of the article). You could also use the English speaking forum for Bologna Erasmus students 2015-2016 to get information from Erasmus students who are in Bologna right now, and there will be a 2016-2017 one appearing soon: http://erasmusu.com/en/erasmus-bologna/erasmus-forum/erasmus-bologna-2015-2016-english-27547

I would also recommend looking for a Bologna Erasmus 2015/2016 Facebook group or page, and asking current exchange students on there. People are always happy to give advice and share their experiences. Good luck!
