Erasmus Experience in Bologna, Italy by Laure

Why did you choose to go to Bologna, Italy?

I've had a passion for Italy for a long time and I didn't know Bologna which is famous for being a very lively city and student friendly.

How long is your stay? How much help do you receive?

About 5 months and I receive about 400 € per month from several scholarships.

How is the student atmosphere in Bologna?

Very alive. There are events every night, there are always people in the streets, in bars and restaurants...

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bologna to other students?

Yes, without hesitation! Bologna is a rich and lively city. Moreover, its university extends throughout the city with its different buildings, more or less historical.

How is the food in this country?

Very good. This city has many specialties such as mortadella or piadina. There aren't any "usual" foods. It's very diverse.

Did you have trouble finding accommodation in Bologna?

Yes, the demand is very high (higher than the rental proposals elsewhere) and prices are very high.

What is the cost of living in Bologna?

The city is quite expensive but there are a lot of discounts for students. Especially Erasmus.

How is language learning? Have you been to language courses organized by the university?

Yes, I have. However, you have to know how to fend for yourself and hang on: it's not always easy to learn a foreign language. However, with a little bit of seriousness, patience and motivation it is possible!

What is the most economical way to get to Bologna from your city?

The bus (even if the journey is very long) or the plane (with the Ryanair there can be interesting offers).

What places would you recommend to party in Bologna?

Via Zamboni without a doubt. All the bars and clubs are nearby.

And to eat in Bologna? What are your favorite places?

The 051 and the bars that offer aperitivi like Lab16 or Impero.

And what cultural visits do you recommend?

San Luca and the chiesa Santa Cristina.

A tip for future students in Bologna?

Don't forget your studies but you are also in Erasmus to discover a city so go out and socialise!
