Erasmus Experience in Bologna, Italy by Heidi
Why did you choose to go to Bologna, Italy?
I have my 1 year MBA in the University of Bologna.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship covers 1/3 of the school fee.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bologna?
It really depends on the subject you are in. For instance, I am in a business school, the 1st term is super intensive, we usually have the whole day of classes from 9 am to 6 pm, and many exams, I mean MANY. Party once a while but not really much. But I heard my friends in other fields have much more free time to enjoy.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Bologna to other students?
Definitely! The city is amazingly beautiful with historical architectures, people are friendly and comfortable in speaking English. There are always many happenings in the Piazza during the weekends. I love the teaching method of the University. They provide us many events and talks held by the professionals in the related industry to our study, great chances to do networking and get to know the inside stories of the fields.
What is the food like?
I gain 10 lbs in 3 months, you can tell how good the food is.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bologna?
It is SUPER difficult to find accommodation during September and October, since all the students arrive at the same time. You will have more luck if you speak Italian, but still hard to have room. Better option is to find an real estate agency.
How much does it cost to live in Bologna?
I am paying €470 for a room in an apartment shared with 3 other students. All bills included.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The University does provide language courses, 1st-week intensive course for free, then €150 for 30 hours (€100 refund if I attend 80% class). If you speak Spanish or French, it is not a problem for you to learn Italian.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bologna from your city?
I have my flight from HK to Frankfurt, then to Bologna. It costs me €900.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bologna?
Party everywhere. Via Zamboni maybe.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bologna?
Sorry, I have a bad memory, I usually just follow my friends. But nothing can go wrong when talking about Italian food.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Bologna in the future?
If you arrive in peak season, it will be good to reserve 1 month AirB&B beforehand to buy more time for flat-hunting. It is killing to carry the huge luggage moving around every single week.

Hi Heidi :)
I'm going this course to Bolonia and I wanted to ask you about the accomodation, How did you get your apartment, by internet or did you go there to visit it? Do you recommend any web to find accomodation or do you have the number of any lanlord who is offering a flat that is OK?
Any other information you have would be great too.
Thanks in advance
