Why did you choose to go to Bologna, Italy?

Because it is one of the biggest student cities in Italy. When you are here in July or August it looks like a really silent city, but starting September the city will be filled with students from all over the world

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship is about 5 months. I receive 270 € per month from the scholarship and from the Dutch government also 379 € monthly.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bologna to other students?

Yes, definitely. The city is gorgeous and the people are so nice. If you want to meet a lot of new people from different countries, this is definitely where you need to go.

What is the food like?

The food really depends on where you go. I haven't had bad food here, just the prices are really different through the city.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bologna?

It was difficult to find one, it took me a lot of time. But I'm glad that I took my time for it, because my house is really good.

How much does it cost to live in Bologna?

It depends on yourself. My rent is 425 € and I buy all I need at the Lidl that's why my weekly costs are 19 euros. But if you go out for dinner a lot it could get a bit expensive. Just choose where you wanna go, because there are a lot of cheap, but good places.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is difficult for me because I don't speak Spanish or French. There are language courses available, but you have to be fast. The classes will be full quickly.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bologna from your city?

For me it is by plane, with Ryanair. It will cost me on a good day only 9 euro's. Just plan your trip in advance and choose a day that is good for you and for your wallet.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bologna?

Lab16, Milennium, Gubo, Arteria. And always end your night at the secret bakery.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bologna?

Osteria dell'orsa. Very busy and you can not book a table, but deffenitely worth the wait. Also for breakfast Papare and Namacafè are very good. For apperativi I would reccomend Degusteria or Lab16.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

San Luca, Due Torri, the old medical faculty close to Piazza Maggiore, San Michele in Bosco and Piazza Maggiore itself. And if you have a free day take the bus or train to Venice, Verona, Ferrare, Modena, Cinque Terre, Lago di Garda, Rimini etc.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Bologna in the future?

Make sure you start in time with finding a house. If there is any possibility make sure you already find a place before getting here, you don't wanna start your first 3 weeks stressing about finding a house.
