Erasmus Experience in Bologna, Italy by Ari

Why did you choose to go to Bologna, Italy?

I was offered a choice between Dublin and Bologna. I preferred Italy so as to learn another language as I already speak English.

How long did your grant last? How much did you receive in financial aid?

3 months. 800 euros during the Erasmus and 200 euros more on my return.

How did you find the student atmosphere in Bologna?

Great, really good vibes between everyone, we all had to "start from zero" and therefore we helped each other without any problem.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bologna to other students?

The city, yes, without a doubt, the University I don't know because I am doing work experience in a nursery school for a higher grade.

How do you find the country's food?

Amazing!

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Bologna?

A bit, more than anything it's the stress, in 4 days I got a house. But they were 4 intense days. Arriving in March isn't a great thing because already all the flats are taken.

How much is it to live in Bologna?

Monthly (rent+food+partying), with about 500-600 euros you can live well if you organise yourself.

How did you find the language? Did you go to any course at the University?

Very easy. I didn't do any course and in 1 month I was speaking quite fluently understood things well.

What's the cheapest way to get to Bologna from your town?

By plane.

Which places would you recommend to go partying in Bologna?

Sodspops, Kubo, Habanero, Kinki (I don't like it but everyone goes and you meet a lot of people). Giardini Margherita...

What about eating in Bologna? Could you tell us your favourite places?

Pizza. Whichever place. Il Portico isn't bad. Pizza Casa is very typical and very cheap. From 3, 50 euros you can get a full pizza to yourself.

And what about cultural visits?

Due Torri, the secrets of Bologna, San Luca, Santo Stefano.

Do you have any advice to give to future Bologna students?

Get your accommodation before you arrive, save yourself the embarrassment and be wary of frauds on the Internet.
