Erasmus Experience in Bologna, Italy by Anna
Why did you choose to go to Bologna, Italy?
Because it is the oldest Law faculty in the world, it has an amazing gastronomy and the city is close to everything! Plus, I love the Italian language and the Italian culture.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I received about €300/month from Sweden.
What is the student lifestyle like in Bologna?
Amazing! There are students everywhere, there is constantly something fun going on and life in Bologna is simply fantastic.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Bologna to other students?
Without a doubt!
What is the food like?
Don't get me started! The best thing about Bologna is the food! The pizza, the pasta, the amazing little trattorias you find everywhere and the gelato.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bologna?
Yes. We took the help of an agency, since we wanted a 2-bedroom apartment for only 6 months.
How much does it cost to live in Bologna?
We paid about €400/month for accommodation.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
Yes. I took the Erasmus intensive language course before coming to Bologna, and I found that very helpful.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bologna from your city?
By plane to Milan or Venice, and then the train from there.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bologna?
Trattoria dell'Orsa for dinner and then the Swine Bar for amazing Passion Fruit Mojito cocktails!
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bologna?
Osteria dell'Orsa is my favourite by far! Trattoria La Montanara is fantastic as well, and not to forget Spacca Napoli! Best pizza in the world!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Just walk around the city under the porticoes and you will see amazing things all over the city.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Bologna?
Don't be worried about class schedules, accommodation etc. Everything has a way to work out in the end! And, make sure to take advantage of the fact that Bologna is so close to everything else Italy has to offer: Rome, Milan, Rimini, The Cinque Terre, Firenze etc.
And, finally, go there! It will be the best experience of your life!
