What is it like to live in Beja? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Beja is a small city in the south of Portugal. It have 25k population and it is one of the most warm city in the country.

During the summer it reaches +45ºC easily and during the winter it is hard to have temperatures below +5ºC.

It have a very good location:

  • Lisbon - 180km (capital)
  • West Coast - 120km (beach)
  • South Coast - 120km (beach)
  • Spain - 60km

This is an ideal city if you want to do your erasmus in a cosy environment without the stress of the big cities.

What is the student lifestyle like in Beja?

In Beja there is a lot of students traditions and parties.

The students in Beja bring a lot of fresh life to the city and they are very friendly with the erasmus.

It is a small city, but you have bars making parties for students every single week.

How much does it cost to live in Beja?

Beja it is an interior city so it can be a little bit more expensive to live in Beja than in the Lisbon.

You can rent a room for 120€/month till 180€/month.

You can rent a 3 rooms house for 400€/month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Beja? Is there any advice you can give?

No.

If you are an erasmus and you are coming to study in the University, they have a residence where you are going to be placed.

However if you don't like a student residence you can easily find a house/room for you.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Portugal the gastronomy is awesome.

In this part of the country the main dishes are made with pork meat, however since we have a big coastal area, you can eat good fish as well.

What places would you recommend visiting in Beja?

  • Castle.
  • Queen Leonor's Museum
  • Roman Ruins
  • The city parks
  • Pax Julia Theater
  • Ovibeja (One of the biggest fair in the south of Portugal)

Yes, you can eat very good food in Beja. Specially meat dishes.

Is the nightlife good in Beja? Where is good to go?

In Beja you have a few bars and nightclubs due to the ciy size.

However you can spend a good night in the city nightclubs.

What advice would you give future students heading to Beja?
