Experience in bbw University of Applied Sciences, Germany by Sid
Generally, what is bbw University of Applied Sciences like?
After 5 months here,
Pro's: Easy structure, 2 class per week on an average, too easy studies, Questions circulated a day before exam, Presentations in class at times by students.
Cons: New university, lot of changes to be made, No practical exposure yet. Slow in making changes. Weak industrial contacts.
What are the facilities like?
A library on the ground floor with a capacity of max 20 students(total students expected to be more than 500) with some colorful book shelves.
A cafeteria on the top floor which closes at 2-3pm.
Free student wifi in the 7 floor building.
Pro's: Tandem programme available but not as popular (the attendance is approximately 3-4 students each week).
Con's: Having a 3-d printer but its broken since a year now, which means no practicals.
We have computer labs where softwares such as MS Visio and MS Project can be taught but the initiatives are missing.
What are the tutors like?
Pro's: Dedicated staff for subjects like Logistics and Environment who always try to give more than 100%.
Con's: Inexperienced staff for all the other important subjects. They cover 20-30% of the module list and circulate exam papers before exam to keep student grade high.
Are the lessons easy in bbw University of Applied Sciences?
Pro's: Yes, too easy content taught with basic expectation of knowledge.
Con's: Easy and unskilled knowledge is not what the industry and/or employees require. Research work is not assigned to any class.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Pro's: Tandem programme(but unpopular)
Con's: No other activity in spite Per semester fee being 3475 euros.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
I don't think so. Usually questions are known to students before exams thus most of the students provide a 'satisfactory' feedback for most of the professors. There is room for improvement tough.
Are there any stories you can share?
Our lectures at 'Logistics' class and 'Technical German' were super organized, mixed with loads of interaction and Meta plans made by student group, presented with clear examples.
However, the story remains to be dull during other important lectures where practical exposure is missing due to the fact that the professors are unable to create any interest in the subject and unable to answer our questions at any level.
We, as students are trying to speak up and make changes but the system is too laid back and addicted to working slowly, thus resisting change.
