Why did you choose to go to Bayreuth, Germany?

Because it's a nice place to live in. It's a small town but if you want or need to, you can reach bigger cities by train. The uni is also well organised and everybody is really friendly!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

This depends on the sending institution. My scholarship was of 6 months and I did receive 230 per month. It's enough to pay a room in a dormitory and eat, but of course you'll need some more money. Party is fun but not for free!

What is the student lifestyle like in Bayreuth?

Well, is not that bad. Of course it's not a big city like Berlin or Hamburg, but there's enough to see and to do. Each faculty has its own library and every library is beautiful. Lots of people study there. Once you're tired and you need a break, there's the canteen and the cafeteria, where you can meet some more people, drink or eat and relax for a while.

After studying, going out is a must. There are 2 Irish pubs, the Glashaus direct in the campus, different places where to go to enjoy and stay the night.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Bayreuth to other students?

Sure I would! It was a great time for me, I'd like to come back there!

What is the food like?

Typical German food, so... it's up to you! I'm Italian, this means I'm severe and critical about food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Bayreuth?

The uni itself helped me to find an accommodation in a dormitory. It was not expensive at all, it was great and comfortable. If you don't mind to share kitchen and bathroom with other people it's very easy to find a place.

How much does it cost to live in Bayreuth?

Well, my room was 165 euro per month. And then I needed to go food shopping, and if you don't know where to go, it's more than expensive. but there are lots of supermarket and you can choose the nearest one or the cheapest one!

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Sure they are. Are you planning to learn a useless language? You're in the right place cause the Bayreuth University offers many language courses and they're for free. German isn't that difficult and the teachers are professional and well prepared.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Bayreuth from your city?

Come on, Sicily is far far far away! Of course by plane it's the easiest way to travel but it's also the most expensive. The most economical is to go by bus, but it takes more than 24 hours!

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Bayreuth?

Erasmus party are always in the Suite. I really love the two Irish pubs, the atmosphere is relaxing.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Bayreuth?

The Italian ones! Il rustico is a very good one, then there are some good pizzerias but if you want to eat German you should probably go to Oskar.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Every spot is something related to Wagner, so it's easy to find museums, theatres and much more.
