What is it like to live in Balikesir? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Balıkesir is not so big city.There is not crowded like İstanbul.Balıkesir has a lot of beautiful county.Students can visit some town near Marmara or Aegean sea.We dont have to spent a lot of money for living.

What is the student lifestyle like in Balikesir?

Balıkesir's people are so helpfull.But you should be careful when you go shopping in the city.There are cafes in the city.Unfortunately City doesnt have big bar or pubs.I know just 2-3 place.Because of that students go to cafe or they arrange their private parties generally.

How much does it cost to live in Balikesir?

It can be change but the city transportation student cost 1,50 lira.If you choose small taxi it will be 1,75 lira.(But you should ask students price). Accommodation change in 200-500 lira.You should prefer private dorms.But If you want to rent a apartment cost will be rise up.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Balikesir? Is there any advice you can give?

Dorms are good choose.Because they are not expensive and you dont have to cooking and pay outher things.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

We use oil and spices.But you can find fast food everywhere.(Burger king whopper menu 10,99 lira :) )

What places would you recommend visiting in Balikesir?

You can visit Ayvalık,Altınoluk,Akçay .You can come to Susurluk for drinking Ayran.

Is the nightlife good in Balikesir? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is not good in Balıkesir. But Balıkesir is near big cities so you can go there.Bursa is a big city.You can go there in weekend.

What advice would you give future students heading to Balikesir?

They should know little Turkish.Something like 'I am student' and 'I want to go there' 'where is this place'.Because in the city some people cant speak English like bus drivers.They should be careful in small shopping place.They should learn true prices.They can want discount from the shop owner.If they are in big shopping center like yaylada prices are same for everybody.
