Auckland | Brekkie & Ice Cream
Auckland, breakfast and ice cream. The title itself makes my stomach kick around in hunger. I had the chance to discover Auckland, New Zealand right after our amazing trip in Queenstown. Our first morning started off with all four of us in quite a hungry mood. This was when we were walking from our hotel towards the harbour and stumbled upon a small alleyway that led us to our breakfast.
I really feel guilty about showing you a fantastic place to eat but not remembering the name of the place! I must say that there is no shortage of cafes here in Auckland. Cafes are opening everywhere like hotels are in China, and you will bond to find a place that will fit both your desire and your budget. For our experience, we were cramped out in a cozy cafe just in the alleyway. The place was really small but that really contributed to the experience. If you’re in Auckland, I would recommend just going for a simple breakfast like I did. This was our second cafe breakfast in New Zealand I find that the people here make these simple treats really well. The ingredients used are top-notch.
For my brunch, I had some delicious toast, with smoked eye bacon, two soft poached eggs, a quarter of fresh avocado, two hash browns, one sausage and some mushrooms. Oh and that little brown line is balsamic. I have no idea why they only gave me a line worth of delicious balsamic. The plate did look nice visually and I had hoped for the line to be slightly thicker. Everything was good and it set me off for the next few hours. If you’re in New Zealand, another thing that do really well here is coffee. I ordered by trusted skinny latte and it was delicious. New Zealand is really right beside Australia in terms of its cafe quality, ambience and value.
Now moving on to a place that I actually know the name of, Giapo Ice Cream. Its location cannot be more convenient and easier to find as it is right next to Auckland Civic Theatre on 279 Queen Street. They do open until quite late into the night, but to be super sure, visit their website for more information. Going back to the topic at hand, Giapo is one of the best ice cream places in the city. It has actually been recognised as one of the best in Auckland by The New Zealand Herald! I do agree with them in saying that the price is quite high, at about $8. This is like a place for premium ice cream, but they do a great job in living up to the high prices that they set. They have various flavours and I assume that they change and come up with new ones every once in a while. Like good eating spots around the city, you can expect to be in a queue here.
Once again, I apologise for the frustration my lack of memory in the name of the first breakfast place may have caused. To make up for my irresponsibility, I have done a little extra research to help you out with pinpointing a few alternatives. The link towards the end of the post will show you the top 50 best cafes in Auckland, as discovered by the locals at Metro Eats Auckland. They sure know their stuff way better than me so these are the people to trust! To further make sure you get something out of this quick post, I’ve also found an interesting read on best ice cream spots in Auckland from another local, at New Zealand Herald. I hope this post has been useful and that has given you a little glimpse of what this city has to offer for great cafe and ice cream experiences.
