Ardhan City

The most spectacular snowy mountain city of all Turkish cities to be recognized and travel to enjoy the long-lasting snow, there is information about the city of Ardhan many different, it is within the countries of the north-east of Turkey, a country that shares geographically borders with Georgia and Armenia.

Ardahan is a pleasant city with a Turkish majority and a Kurdish minority, with a continental climate where winter is long.

Ardhan has a rich history dating back 3,000 years, during which it embraced many civilizations that left ancient historical and archaeological areas, in addition to enjoying the beauty of the fascinating nature of hills, lakes and other beautiful natural areas, of which we have chosen 6 of them.

1- Ardahan Castle

Ardhan City

Ardhan Castle was built by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the mid-16th century. According to the excavations carried out in the area surrounding the castle, this area dates back to about two thousand to three thousand and 500 years BC.

The castle is located on the northern bank of the Kura River in the center of the city and is also characterized by its rectangular shape and ribbed towers. Its wall is made of durable basalt stones with a length of 745 meters.

2 - Devil Castle
This castle is located in the Karaçay valley in the village of Çıldırımtepe in Çıldır. The castle is 1.5 km from the village.

It is noteworthy that this castle was called the "devil castle" because of its construction on rugged land with lowlands and heights that hinder the access of enemies to it. It is likely that the construction of the castle dates back to the middle era and was carried out by the Oratorians.

3 - Archaeological writings excavated in the village of Tas Bridge
Çıldır's village of Taşköprü
, in Çıldır, has a huge rock with ancient inscriptions. These writings are the oldest historical document in the city of Ardhan.

4- Hasimicioglu Rasim Bey Palace 
Located in the center of the city of Ardhan, Hamsıoglu Rasim Bey Palace Palace  has Ottoman inscriptions above the entrance to the main gate, most likely from 1911, and consists of a single floor rectangular in the classical Baltic architecture.

What distinguishes the palace is that its rooms and halls are open to each other, and it was used as a center of the Turkish government after the Turkish liberation war.

5- Çıldır lake and the ruins of Akçakale
In terms of area, Çıldır lake is again among the Turkish lakes after Van Lake in the eastern Anatolia region, 45 km from the city center.

In winter, the lake freezes and its ice is 1 meter thick. Ski competitions are held every year. There is the Akçakale Adası, which contains Neolithic monuments.

6- Övündü and Ortakent caves
The Övündü Cave is located in the south of the village of Övündü, in Çıldır. The Ortakent Cave is located in the east of Hanak's Ortakent Village. There are a large number of giant rocks on the banks of the Kura River, which later turned into beautiful caves, as well as a large church as well.
