My Experience in Armenia, Colombia by Iván

What's it like living in Armenia? Would you recommend it?

It's a city with a very agreeable climate (between 18 and 25 degrees), and with temperatures more or less constant over the course of the year. It's also a little rainy. It's a small, quiet city, with lots of nature surrounding it, and very pure air, little pollution and few vehicles, and with various tourist attractions in the surrounding towns.

What's the student life like in Armenia?

It's not very big, but Armenia has a large amount of young people living here. There isn't much of a nightlife, but this is made up for by how easy it is to travel to the nearby towns.

How expensive is living in Armenia?

A student living in a shared flat would spend around 600, 000 and million Colombian pesos per month (that's between 300 and 500 dollars).

Did you find it hard to find somewhere to live in Armenia? Do you have any tips for flat-hunting?

No, since I've been living in the city for a few years now. Some advice would be to ask someone who's already living there if they know anyone with a room to rent, and that the best options are usually in the north of the city, which is the most modern part, although this also makes it the most expensive.

What's the food like in Colombia? What are your favourite dishes?

Colombian food is very similar to Venezuelan, and a bit similar to Spanish, Mexican and Peruvian food. My favourite dishes are: Bandeja Paisa (white rice, ground beef, slices of banana, thick tortillas known as arepa, avocado, fríjoles (beans), egg, chorizo and chircarrones), and apreas rellenas (thick tortillas filled with a variety of ingredients: meat, chicken, chorizon, chicarrones, etc. ).

What places do you recommend visiting in Armenia?

I recommend visiting the Parque de la Vida (the Park of Life), the Coffee National Park (in the town of Montenegro, Quindío, at least an hour from Armenia), Salento (an enchanting town thirty minutes away from Armenia), the city centre (good shopping), the Quimbaya Gold Museum (which has an exhibition of indigenous architectural items), RECUCA (Recorrido por la Cultura Cafetera - a place where you can experience and learn about coffee culture), PANACA (National Park of Agropecuaria Culture).

What are the best places for partying in Armenia?
