Experience in Amsterdam Fashion Institute, Netherlands by Elza
Generally, what is Amsterdam Fashion Institute like?
Amsterdam Fashion Institute is a very messy college. There is a big difference between the atmosphere in the Dutch and international courses. Teachers seem to lack in their ability to fully teach in proper English. AMFI does not try to organise students activities like all other universities which it's a pity.
The building is really nice, and location as well. As well as the other faculties at HvA where we have class.
What are the facilities like?
There are printers available, and a nice cafés near. And a big sewing room with many industrial machines to use for everyone.
What are the tutors like?
Mixed. Most are from the working field and teach parttime. This has advantages and disadvantages. They have a young mindset, but find difficulty in explaining clearly and structure classes. Overall the teachers are nice.
Are the lessons easy in Amsterdam Fashion Institute?
You can very well keep up with them, but classes take either a lot of time, or too little. Sometimes you get new information for three hours, which makes you really tired. Sometimes you have a class of thirty minutes which seems too short.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Individuals, ''Amfi's reality school'' aka the clothing store of AMFI run by students, organise events. But AMFI never does something outside of that.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
Mediocre, the teachers are not real teachers, but are mostly there for guidance.
