Why did you choose to go to Alghero, Italy?

Because i searched a pleasent place to live, not a big city but a place to discover, the culture but also the nature and landscapes around. And for sure Sardinia is such a wonderful island for this.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I stay only one semester, the first semester in Alghero is from October to february.

What is the student lifestyle like in Alghero?

The Erasmus life here is really different from the bi cities, Alghero is a city really crowded by tourists in summer but really empty in winter, so the night life. therefore, the Erasmus life is only made by the students themselves, we organise parties, diners and everything between us. Alghero is not much about go to night clubs (there are 2 of them) but more going on trip with the other students to discover Sardinia and enjoy being with your fellows Erasmus friends or with Italian students also.
At 30min of Alghero in the city of Sassari there is the big university and a more active student life but it is difficult to join it.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Alghero to other students?

For sure ! It is a wonderful place but students have to be aware that here the student life is different from the big cities.

What is the food like?

DELICIOUS, this is one of the biggest advantages of Sardinia, everything is so good and so cheap !

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Alghero?

It is really easy because there are lot of accomodations due to the activity in summer but during the year lot of them are empty so owners are glad to rent them for cheap

How much does it cost to live in Alghero?

Really few, i don't have numbers but this is really a big advantage

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It depends on your level in italian, it is possible to manage it without speaking italian but everything will be really difficult because most of the people (students included) don't speak english, but italian is really easy to learn.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Alghero from your city?

The Best way is to take the ferry from Spain, France or Italy

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Alghero?

Start in the small bars with the cheap beer and end in the small night clubs like "agua del mar" but the best is still to party at a student's house

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Alghero?

ALL OF THEM

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Lot of beautiful beaches, landscapes and small villages, all sardinia is so beautiful

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Alghero in the future?

Without car, everything is more difficult in sardinia, so if you can have a car, or a friend who has a car, it would be perfect !
