A trip to Portugal.

For the small sum of 100 euros, the package includes: a return ticket for the bus, the hotel (photos), the nights out as well as "travel insurance". So, there were a hundred or so of us on our way. (One bus full of Yanks, another full of Europeans).

Friday

We left Seville on Friday morning to get to Albufeira around 2pm (skwizr) in the south of Portugal. We were in rooms of 2 and 4, in what I would call "all-inclusive".

Kitchen, bathroom, a small bedroom, a balcony and a view of the pool.

Whoever said "3 beach trip" said (... ) the answer lies in the question itself. See below the first, 600m from the hotel.

So a beach day, followed by an evening meal at the appartment and then a "We Love Spain" style night out, that is:

Everyone takes a 5 minute bus ride at 1am to the nearest strip, stick around for an hour and a half in a small wood-panelled bar with dancers the likes of "les Chtis in Ibiza/Ski/Mykonos. Then another hour and a half in other bars before heading to the local nightclub at 5am. We didn't follow suit. We preferred instead to take a taxi at 4am, 90 euros going at 90km/h on roads with a 50 limit.

Saturday

Having started with a quick bus trip to various points of interest, to the ends of the earth: Cabo San Vicente. Just as a warm up.

This was followed by a brief stop at Pont de Piedad (as the main event).

Heading next to Lagos, where we ate a fantastic burger, in a nondescript bar. Why am I talking about this? For recommendations. O AMIGO.

To finish, “Praia Dona Ana” beach (more of photos with my friends from Skwizr and google maps). So wonderful! I won't comment on the temperature of the water, bear in mind we went on the 13th October!

Finally, a tour of Lagos, and a 2 hour bus trip back.

The evening was the same as the night before, except for the fact that we had a drink at the apartment with some Italians, Germans, and English.

Sunday

A struggle to wake up, quick clean of the apartment (there weren't any sponges or cleaning products), checked out another beach in Albufeira. Then returned to the bus covered in sand.

What we discovered of interest (or not):

  • Cash machines are rare in Portugal (or at least not on every street corner), and the shopkeepers often prefer cash.
  • Billiards are dirty, lightweight balls.
  • English is widely spoken, from the kebab shop owners to the beach attendants, unlike Spanish. Perhaps because we were at a seaside resort.
